Bill Uhler

When Bill was very young, he fell in love with the guitar. During his early life, he was inspired by watching Hank Williams and Elvis Presley movies, and later developed a love for the blues listening to records by the Allman Brothers and other popular music of that time.

When Bill was 6 he got his first guitar in Darmstadt, Germany, and by the time he was 15 was gigging around the Army town bars of Junction City, Kansas (he was an “Army Brat”).

At first, Bill taught himself to play by listening and scatching to a lot of vinyl. Later, in Florida (Army kids move around a lot), he studied jazz, and when he finally moved to the Chicago suburbs he studied music theory at the College of Lake County.

He’s been teaching for 12 years, plays and teaches all styles of music including rock, classic rock, blues, fingerstyle, folk, country and jazz and enjoys working with students of all ages.

The highlight of Bill’s career was meeting and performing with Koko Taylor at Park West. Meeting and jamming with Bo Diddley, Billy Branch and Nellie Tiger Travis were also great high points. Other memorable experiences have to include opening for Creedence Clearwater Revisited at the House of Blues.

Bands Bill has performed with: Part Time Prophet, Reckless, Out Of Control, Alter Image, Sound and The Fury, Quiet Storm, Kevin Purcell and The Nightburners, The Woody Johnson Band, The Blue Dukes, Slackdaddies and Koko Taylor.
