The Academy At The Music Gallery Offers Guitar, Bass and Drum Lessons
Frequently Asked Questions:
What Do You Learn In Your Music Lesson?
That question is often asked by prospective students. The answer is that the teachers make it a priority to get to know the student on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.
We Do Not Treat Every Student The Same In Terms Of What and How We Teach.
A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have different needs than a fifty seven year old taking guitar for the 2nd time after having lessons as a child.
We Are Sensitive To The Fact That Every Student Is An Individual.
If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or you child.
What Styles Of Music Do You Teach?
We teach classic rock, heavy metal and hard rock, blues, country, jazz, classical, folk and fingerstyle.
Are Your Teachers Qualified?
Our teachers have received their educations from prestigious institutions such as Musicians Institute, Roosevelt University and Northeastern University. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalites, are exteremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
Do You Do At Home Lessons?
No, teaching at a students home is very difficult and is not a great enviroment for serious learning. When a teacher comes to your home they have to set up their materials, tune up, get the student tuned up, write out the material the student needs to work on. In most cases this can take 15 to 20 minutes to do leaving just 10 minutes of actual teaching. Add any distractions and the student might only get a few minutes of lesson time. Here at the Music Gallery Academy all the teachers have computers, printers, internet access and teaching materials handy. We can get the material needed for the lessons in 5 minutes or less giving the student 20 to 25 minutes of attention and work.
Do You Have Walk In Lessons Available?
Yes, Walk in lessons are subject to the teachers availability. Lessons are $40 per 1/2 hour and must be paid in advance of the lesson. There are no make ups or refunds if you miss the lesson. Call 847-432-6350 to schedule a lesson.
Guitar Lessons (Ages 7 and up)
Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challeged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun like your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of teaching methods to accomplish this and we encourage students to bring CD's or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tune. We can also do recordings for the student to practice along with.

Drum Lessons (Ages 9 and up)
Our drum room is equipped with an electronic drum kit for the students to use. Our teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country, funk and jazz. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons. Students use our drum set so all they need to bring is their sticks and work.
